I started earning money at ten, dusting my grandmother’s furniture for fifty cents. Over the years, I worked in several industries, meeting challenges and building experience. My wife was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000 and is quadriplegic. Caring for her is my full-time responsibility, while writing gives me a way to express my experiences and beliefs.
For years, I contributed political commentaries to a local magazine. My debut book now brings together my thoughts on American politics, Christian faith, and Scripture.
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1954 and graduated high school at seventeen in 1972. I hoped to join the Marines, but my father declined to provide permission because of the Vietnam War. His signature was required for enlistment. Later that year, the military draft ended.
I completed several community college courses before starting my own subcontracting business in 1980, when I was twenty-six. I hired one employee and spent the next fifteen years working under contract with the local cable company.
After years of working outdoors in demanding conditions, I entered the restaurant business. Later, I met John Schnatter, who was serving as CEO of Papa John’s Pizza, and joined his company. I even came very close to purchasing a franchise of my own.
After moving to Florida, remarrying, and joining BellSouth Telecommunications, I relocated to South Carolina with my wife. I retired earlier than expected because she could no longer safely stay home alone. As her primary caregiver, I started writing political commentaries and completed my first book. I am now working on a second, continuing to balance writing with caring for her.
